Murali Coryell - Eyes Wide Open
Nature vs. Nurture. Murali Coryell gives us reason to mull that over on EYES WIDE OPEN. On
 genetics is Larry Coryell, daddy and jazz-fusion guitarist. On environment: house-guests Miles Davis,
George Benson, Billy Cobham, and Stanley Clarke; object- lesson B. B. King; teacher Duke Robillard.
It's a case of blue-eyed soul and well-bred blues. He started with the right genetic soup, and took that
soup to the right schools. He works hard and he works well with all those good ingredients. There's
something in the jazz/blues public that needs to know that it's minions have found bottom, paid up, and
found it again a few times. We suspect Murali got a good grade in that class, even if he hadn't actually taken that class on the street. Hard to hold it against him though: there's the promise here of a good
solid blues man. Stay tuned.
