Murali Coryell keeps on keeping on

...Murali Coryell, the '90s soul man, tells us that he has been very busy shopping his latest recording to the major labels. "Hopefully," he says, "it will be on a major label. It's in the hand's of the lawyers, but I can't tell what labels we are shopping it to. In the meantime, I've got to keep on with the business of booking gigs and staying busy."

Busy indeed. Coryell and company are featured on a new instructional CD and book published by Alfred Music for its "Workshop Arts" series. "It's titled 'Stand Alone R&B' and consists of my arrangements of 10 standard R&B tunes. I performed them with my band at that time Jeremy Baum on organ, T Xicus on drums and Troy Millard on bass. It's available wherever they carry that stuff. You could probably find it at Media Play, places like that."

In the meantime, check out the group, Bill Foster/bass, Rod Gross/drums, Jeremy Baum/B3, at the Towne Crier (62 Rte. 22, Pawling, NY, (914) 855-1300). "We'll be performing tunes from my first CD ("Eyes Wide Open" on Big Mo Records) and from my new as yet unreleased CD, "Stop." This is the blues you really need. Bring the whole family."
