Murali Coryell
A particularly stellar blues show was presented at Bodles Opera House February 28 which exemplified both the finest of blues roots and the best of the up and coming blues artists. It is a great rarity when such a broad spectrum is offered to the blues afficionados for one night's entertainment.
Dig this lineup. Delmark recording artist and W.C. Handy nominee Little Sammy Davis on harp with Midnight Slim (aka Fred Scribner) on guitar, Bobby Kyle (touring guitarist with Johnny Clyde Copeland), Slam Allen the master of funk and blues, Big Mo recording artist Murali Coryell on guitar, and blues vocalist/harpist Roxy Perry with Chris Carter on guitar and Bob Fusco on bass. Each group of artists was accompanied by the Uptown Horns, Papa John Moley on drums, Jeremy Baum on Hammond B3 organ and Eric Winter on bass.
Murali Coryell brought up some blue-eyed soul with his exceptional and diverse guitar ability. Murali showcased tunes of his Big Mo release "Eyes Wide Open". Murali Coryell has toured with Duke Robillard and grew up in what could only be described as a musical hothouse. Murali's abilities encompass blues, jazz, soul, and R&B, not to mention his compositional skills. Murali works at his musical craft and it showed in the audience response to his originals, Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On", and James Brown's "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag".
