Rave On recording artist Slam Allen is a soul blues powerhouse. As singer, guitarist, and songwriter of the Slam Allen Band, Slam has been blessed with the talent of being a complete musical entertainer. With his original sound and soul stirring performances, Slam is now receiving the recognition he deserves.
Voted Best New Soul Blues Artist of 1995 by the Manhattan Blues Alliance, Cat Ballou of the Woodstock Times reveals, "Slam's singing can lift the spirits of a room and bear hug it along from song to song." And of his guitar playing, says Cat, "Slam Allen has a gift for picking a rainbow of notes around a line, and popping them off his own groove like drops of water on a red-hot griddle - his success is inevitable."
With roots to Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, and James Brown on the soul side - stirred with Freddy King, BB King, and Albert Collins on the blues side, Slam has created a modern, soulful sound that will excite his audience "all night long!"
Not a newcomer to show business, Slam, 28 years of age, developed his unique style playing drums (and later rhythm guitar) in his father's R&B band, The Allen Brothers. With Dad, Harrison, on bass and vocals, Uncles Cecil and Buddy playing guitar and saxophone, Slam's impressive musical heritage has been nurtured by living and playing with the source. ("You can't learn this stuff from no book!") Known by his admirers as "The Real Feel," Slam's showmanship is legendary. With his seasoned crew of three holding down the groove, Slam Allen is guaranteed to give your audience a night to remember: "And I ain't lyin!"
Slam has performed with:
Aaron Burton, The Holmes Brothers, Big Jack Johnson, Little Sammy Davis, The Luther Allison Band, Bill Perry, Eric King, Bo Didley, Jr., Murali Coryell, Jonnie Allen, Big Moose, Clarence Spady, Perry Leandro, Ernie Williams, and Midnite Slim. He is also a veteran of the blues festival circuit and this year appeared at the Pocono and Lehigh Valley Blues Festivals in Pennsylvania and at Blues 2000 in Kiamesha Lake, New York.
